NDI Group from Sopot awarded with another Construction of the year title!
NDI has previously been awarded for the construction of the DCT2 Terminal in Gdańsk, the Sports Centre of the Naval Academy in Gdynia (stage II) and the Rotunda building of PKO Bank Polski in Warsaw. This year’s award was granted for the construction of a tram line with accompanying infrastructure in Nowa Bulońska Północna Street (Aleja Pawła Adamowicza) in Gdańsk, which was created as part of the Gdańsk Public Transport Project – stage IVA; the investor is the Gdańsk City Commune. The general contractor and leader of the consortium was NDI SOPOT S.A., and the designers were Europrojekt Gdańsk S.A., Biuro Projektów Budownictwa Komunalnego S.A. and GTI Design sp. z o.o. “I am proud and delighted to accept this award today for two reasons. First of all, I am proud because it is yet another investment that we have completed in line with the expectations of all participants of the construction process while introducing innovative technical solutions. It is a great satisfaction that thanks to our engineering work, we are changing the landscape of our city for the better,” says Sylwia Rogall, Project Director at NDI. “Secondly, I am proud of the entire NDI team that carried out this task, as well as our subcontractors, investment and author’s supervision, for their initiative, professionalism and commitment. This is an award for all of us. Thank you to everyone and congratulations! We did it!” The project took 26 months to complete, and its scope included, inter alia, construction of 2.7 km of “Z” class street, 2.6 km of a double-track tram line with drainage, infrastructure accompanying 4 new tram stops, construction of a tram and bus integration junction with a parking lot for cars and bicycles, construction of a tram and bus transfer junction, construction and reconstruction of sections of streets, intersections, bicycle paths, sidewalks, and pedestrian routes. In its course, the first so-called Venetian Flyover in Poland was constructed. It is a unique project modelled on the arched bridges built by the ancient Romans. The entire structure is innovative and is the result of the work of Polish Engineers. For residents, an important aspect is a good silencing of the structure, thanks to which the noise generated by moving trams is reduced. The flyover was created from 20-metre spans made of reinforced concrete. There are 154 of them, each weighing 40 tonnes. The “Construction of the Year” competition is organised annually by the Polish Association of Construction Engineers and Technicians with the participation of the Ministry of Construction and the General Office of Construction Supervision. Its purpose is to select construction objects on which outstanding performance results have been achieved. The subjects of the Competition are buildings or investment processes (including modernisation processes) of all types of construction. Entities participating in the construction process, with a Polish legal personality, i.e. direct investors preparing the investment for implementation (including developers or local government services) and general or main contractors of construction and assembly works can apply for the competition. Awards and distinctions are awarded to the applicants. The competition is managed by the Organising Committee appointed by the Presidium of the Main Board of the Polish Association of Construction Engineers and Technicians from among the members of the Association and co-organising and sponsoring institutions. Author: NDI GroupThe design and construction of Aleja Pawła Adamowicza in Gdańsk, along with road and tram infrastructure and a unique bridge over the Siedlecki Stream in Gdańsk, was selected as the Construction of the Year 2020.
