Bank Millennium will sponsor Millennium Docs Against Gravity for the sixteenth time

The 18th round of Millennium Docs Against Gravity, Poland’s biggest documentary film festival, will take place between 3 and 12 September 2021 in cinemas of 7 Polish towns and from 16 September to 3 October 2021 online. Bank Millennium, the culturally dedicated and sensitive title sponsor, never ceases to support the festival and its fringe events. For the third year in a row it has also continued the audio description project for selected films.

– We are proud to observe the festival supported by us for over 16 years expand not just on our cultural country’s map, but also across the world. Millennium Docs Against Gravity is our flagship project as part of our cultural sponsorship, which is why we want to share it with the broadest audience possible. For persons with disabilities we shall continue the audio description project this year. Selected films and shows will again feature subtitles for hearing impaired and audio description, which involves a voice description of the visual content available through headphones. This way blind and visually impaired persons, senior citizens as well as dyslectics and intellectually impaired persons can participate in the festival without restrictions and enjoy the latest documentary productions from the whole world – in cinema or thanks to the hybrid formula of the festival – in the privacy of their own homes. In addition, together with festival organisers, we build the space where one’s own story can be told by persons who are often socially excluded, e.g. those with bipolar affective disorder. In supporting this event we facilitate very broad access to the world of culture and social debate ― Iwona Jarzębska, Director of Public Relations Department of Bank Millennium, has said.

Millennium Docs Against Gravity raises contemporary world problems and needs which can interest any viewer. Bank Millennium greatly appreciates the selection of original repertoire and diversity of themes in films presented during the festival and its fringe events. It has sponsored the Festival and funded the Grand Prix already since 2006. In 2016 it acquired title sponsorship over the event in order to promote together with Against Gravity „Millennium Docs Against Gravity”, Poland’s biggest celebration of documentary film.

This year, like the year before, the festival will take place in a hybrid formula: from 3 to 12 September in cinemas of 7 Polish towns: Warsaw, Wrocław, Gdynia, Poznan, Katowice, Lublin and Bydgoszcz, and from 16 September to 3 October online on the mdag.pl site. During the festival two very unique debates will be conducted. The first one will be on ecology and activism, the second debate – proposed by Bank Millennium – will focus on neurodiversity and persons excluded from society and the labour market.

Bank Millennium has been involved in culture promotion for more than 30 years now. In parallel to its business it has supported national and local cultural events. It is a 360° sponsor of culture, because it promotes art in almost all its forms, including: music, painting, sculpture, film, theatre, photography, literature and performance. Bank Millennium reaches for niche and popular culture and is by design a long-term partner.

– The pandemic has changed nothing in this approach. – We fully realise that the period of the COVID-19 pandemic has been extremely tough on institutions of culture, cinemas and theatres, therefore support in this area is still very important for us – adds Iwona Jarzębska.
