2020 the year of special challenges in the area of CSR

Hospitals, ambulance posts, local authorities, schools, volunteer firefighters and nursing homes were the main beneficiaries of GAZ-SYSTEM’s activities last year. Support has been concentrated in areas most vulnerable to the consequences of the epidemic. In total, the company has earmarked around PLN 3 million for combating COVID-19 in 2020.

The assistance provided by the company in 2020 varied widely. The overarching goal was counteracting the spread  of COVID-19. Financial support was mainly through donations to hospitals, nursing homes and volunteer firefighters, among other entities. On the other hand, in-kind support was provided not only through donations of disinfectants, masks and gloves, but also through social actions or educational workshops. The company has also implemented regular grant programs, including the ten-year old pro-environmental Natural Energy Fund. Company involvement was also greatly supported by its employees who, thanks to grassroots initiatives, donated over PLN 50 thousand to fight the epidemic and funded Christmas gifts for children.

We target our supporting measures where they are needed most  focusing on supporting health care and remote learning for children during the pandemic. In total, GAZ-SYSTEM has donated over PLN 1.4 million for the purchase of medical equipment for hospitals. Whereas within the framework of the “GAZ-SYSTEM for Education” program over 300 pieces of computer equipment were delivered to 57 schools, for the purchase of which the company allocated PLN 750 thousand – says Iwona Dominiak, Spokesperson of GAZ-SYSTEM. Our employees were also very active, reaching out with financial and in-kind support to nursing homes and the poorest of families, adds Dominiak.

Online educational workshops

For four years now, GAZ-SYSTEM has been increasing the level of knowledge among young people about the production and use of gas fuels and the safe operation of gas pipelines. So far, as part of educational workshops, the company has conducted over 300 thematically interesting lessons, thanks to which nearly 8 thousand students have gained extended  knowledge of chemistry, physics and mathematics. In 2020, the initiative was carried out remotely. 111 workshops were conducted in schools from 70 municipalities in 15 voivodeships. More than 14 thousand gadgets were donated to schools along with scientific aids for teachers to conduct experiments remotely.

The Natural Energy Fund

This is a grant competition that awards original ideas to protect and save the environment. The idea is to support local governments, educational institutions and NGOs in the implementation of innovative environmental projects. Each year, the winners demonstrate their creativity by proposing solutions tailored to the needs of their local communities. In the 10th edition of the competition for environmentally friendly activities 188 grants of a maximum value of PLN 10 thousand each were awarded. The total amount was over PLN 1.5 million for the development and education of local communities. The plans of this year’s 11th edition of the contest is providing 48 grants in eight voivodeships: Kuyavian-Pomeranian, Łódź, Lesser Poland, Mazovian, Subcarpathian, Podlaskie, Silesian and West Pomeranian. The announcement of the winners of the current fund in progress will take place on February 19, 2021.

Voluntary actions and employee engagement

2020 is also a year of commitment and a big heart shown by the employees of GAZ-SYSTEM. In April and December, as part of the “GAZ-SYSTEM Together for Others” program employees collected money to COVID-19 dediaced hospitals, infectious disease wards and social welfare homes. Almost 500 people took part in the initiative, which collected a total of more than PLN 50 thousand. The funds raised were used to purchase medical equipment, personal protective equipment, and to meet the current needs at the assisted facilities. The company’s employees also fulfilled the dreams of children from disadvantaged families who wrote letters to Santa Claus about themselves and asked for their dream Christmas presents. Each employee was able to choose a letter and purchase a gift for a child. All the dreams in the letters came true.
