New flyover and roundabout in Żory
A hazardous railroad crossing will disappear. Instead, a modern road flyover and a grade-separated intersection will be built. The adjacent streets will be rebuilt. The investment in Żory will be carried out by the NDI group based in Sopot. The contract for the execution of works will be signed this week.
The investment will be implemented in the “design and build” system. The general contractor, NDI from Sopot, must prepare design documentation, obtain a building permit and perform construction works.
“The works will include, among others, the construction of a road flyover over an active railway line along with the road system adjacent to Dworcowa Street. In addition, Dworcowa, Fabryczna, Mikołowska and Leśna Streets will be rebuilt. They will be connected by a new, grade-separated roundabout. Meanwhile, the current railroad crossing will be eliminated,” says Marcin Wawrzacz, Project Director at NDI.
The greatest benefit of the flyover will be the improvement of safety and smoother car, bicycle and pedestrian traffic in the area of the railway station.
The cost of all works is approximately PLN 24 million. The investment is eligible for financing under the project entitled “Improving safety at the intersections of railroads with roads – stage III”. The investor is the City Hall in Żory and Polish State Railways.
The works are to be completed in mid-2023.
