Healthy and sustainable buildings. Launch of the World Green Building Council report: Health & Wellbeing Framework

As part of the Better Places For People project conducted by the World Green Building Council, a new report was launched: Health & Wellbeing Framework. It is a set of comprehensive, global guidelines for healthy and sustainable buildings for all and everywhere. The new framework highlights the importance of health and wellbeing in context of sustainable and green buildings.

The World Green Building Council (WorldGBC) has presented the report Health & Wellbeing Framework – a comprehensive educational tool for a healthy and sustainable buildings.

The report is a set of comprehensive, global guidelines for healthy and sustainable buildings for all and everywhere. The framework is based on the UN global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The World Green Building Council has focused on health and well-being, aspects that are supported by sustainable buildings.

In connection with the COVID-19 pandemic, which showed the relationship between sustainable design and human health, the report presents six strategic areas, including indoor air quality, the role of man in the supply chain or resistance to climate change. The novelty is a cross-sectoral analysis redefining the approach to the health of people, their buildings, cities and communities.

Based on the UN global sustainability goals, our new report redefines the understanding of health and well-being in buildings. Until now, we have only considered the health and well-being of building users. But this is only part of the picture. We need to take into account the effects across the entire value chain. Now our network of green building councils, businesses and co-workers are joining together to drive these changes. Truly sustainable buildings are for everyone and everywhere – says Cristina Gamboa, CEO of World Green Building Council (WorldGBC).

Alicja Kuczera, CEO of the Polish Green Building Council PLGBC, President of the European part of the World Green Building Council – Europe Regional Network (ERN) also took part in the work on the report.

Buildings in which we live, work, learn, have a significant impact on our health and well-being. That is why we focus on education and joint activities for the sustainable design, construction and use of space, for a better future. The report highlights global demand and the importance of green buildings. It can be used as a guideline for healthy, sustainable construction for many sectors around the world – concludes Alicja Kuczera.
